    FAQ

What people ask before starting a business in Poland

Did not find the answer? Message us and ask directly.

Can a foreigner register a JDG in Poland?

Yes, but since 5 March 2026 the right depends on your residence status. Ukrainian citizens with PESEL UKR, holders of a permanent residence permit, EU long-term resident status or the Pole's Card register a JDG on the same terms as Poles. You need a PESEL and an electronic signature: profil zaufany or bank login. We check your residence status before filing.

Which is better: a JDG or an sp. z o.o.?

A JDG is simpler and cheaper, but the owner is liable with personal assets and pays ZUS regardless of income. An sp. z o.o. limits liability and does not pay ZUS just for existing, but it needs full accounting, a KRS report and CIT. The difference becomes noticeable with a steadily high income or several partners. We calculate both options on your numbers before registration, and the decision is yours.

How much is ZUS in the first year and what reliefs exist?

For the first 6 months there is ulga na start: you pay only the health contribution. For the next 24 months preferencyjny ZUS applies, in 2026 it is 456,18 zł compared with the full 1 926,76 zł excluding health. After that, with income up to 120 000 zł in the previous year, mały ZUS plus is available for up to 36 months in each five-year period. Once a year you can also take wakacje składkowe and skip social contributions for one month.

Do I need to register for VAT?

From 1 January 2026 the exemption applies while annual sales stay under 240 000 zł, previously the limit was 200 000 zł. Some activities must register from the first sale: legal and advisory services, jewellery, part of online trade. Non-resident companies have no threshold at all: a single taxable transaction in Poland already requires registration.

What is KSeF and what changes in 2026?

KSeF is the national e-invoicing system. From 1 February 2026 all VAT payers receive purchase invoices only through it, and it becomes mandatory for large businesses. From 1 April 2026 all other VAT payers, including JDGs, must issue invoices through KSeF. For the smallest, with sales up to 10 000 zł a month, the obligation starts on 1 January 2027. Penalties are not applied until the end of 2026.

Can I get a residence card based on a business?

Yes, temporary residence permits are granted both to JDG owners and to sp. z o.o. shareholders. The voivodeship looks at income, taxes and contributions paid, and for a company also at turnover and jobs. We prepare the financial part: income certificates, proof of ZUS and tax payments, reports for the required period.

I already work with another accountant. Is switching hard?

No. You sign a contract with us and withdraw the authorisations from the previous office, and we do the rest: collect the documents, reconcile balances and check this year's returns. The switch takes from three days and usually happens at the start of a month.

How much does it cost to register a JDG or a company with you?

JDG registration is free if you sign a one-year bookkeeping contract. It includes an analysis of your business and tax calculations under all three forms on your numbers. There is no state fee for the CEIDG entry. The cost of registering an sp. z o.o. depends on your situation, we will name it after a short conversation. The court fee for the KRS entry and 0,5% PCC on the share capital are added to it. The calculator on this page shows the cost of bookkeeping.

How do I suspend a JDG if there is no income for a while?

Activity is suspended through CEIDG, free and online, for at least 30 days. While suspended you do not pay social ZUS contributions or file VAT returns. Important limits: you cannot run ongoing activity or invoice new services, but you can receive payment for earlier ones and sell company assets. Resuming is also done through CEIDG with one application. We handle suspension and resumption for you.

Can I get a residence card through an sp. z o.o. if there is no profit in the first year?

Yes, having no profit in the first year is not in itself a reason to refuse. The voivodeship office looks wider: turnover, signed contracts, jobs, contributions paid and whether the business is real. Refusals usually come not because of a loss, but when the company exists only on paper. We prepare the financial package and certificates of no arrears with the tax office and ZUS.
